I am writing to express my support for the candidacy of Molly Kapstein Cote for the Newport School Committee.
Molly has been an educator and a lawyer, teaching as an adjunct professor for Roger Williams Law School and Salve Regina University. She is currently the State’s Chief Policy Officer for Post Secondary Education. She often mentions her grandfather, Sherwin Kapstein, a recognized leader in the field of education, as her mentor and role model.

Throughout her career as an attorney, Molly has demonstrated her ability to advocate and find solutions to complex issues. I have seen firsthand Molly’s commitment to public service throughout her career. She was a passionate advocate for our elderly community, rising to Unit

Chief in the Elder Abuse Unit. Molly did not accept “it can’t be done”, rather she broke down walls to facilitate communication. I am confident that she will bring that same passion to the School Committee.

It is that willingness to listen to different opinions and her skills as a problem solver that are needed more than ever in Newport. We need elected officials that are committed to working together to ensure that we have strong public schools.

It is with confidence in her commitment to our schools and our community that I am supporting Molly Kapstein Cote.

A historic moment for women in sailing is set to unfold from September 12-19, 2026, as the New York Yacht Club prepares to host the inaugural International Women’s Championship. This elite event will see top female sailors from across the globe race in the Club’s cutting-edge fleet of 37-foot IC37 yachts, designed to showcase pure skill, teamwork, and tactical expertise.

Inspired by the highly successful Rolex Invitational Cup, this new regatta promises a level playing field with one-design boats rigged and tuned to exact specifications. Teams of nine or more—whether from pro or amateur ranks—will go head-to-head for top honors, including a Rolex timepiece awarded to the winning skipper. The competition will feature two days of practice followed by five days of high-intensity racing, while social events each evening at the Club’s Harbour Court waterfront will make for a memorable week.

Commodore L. Jay Cross expressed the Club’s vision for the event: “We want this championship to join the ranks of sailing’s premier competitions. The IC37s were built to reward teamwork and exceptional tactics, making this the perfect stage for female sailors to shine.”

Canadian Olympian Sarah Douglas, set to join the field, can’t wait to race with an all-female crew. “This championship is an amazing opportunity for women in sailing,” says Douglas. “It’s the kind of event I’ve wanted to compete in for years.”

Event chair Cory Sertl added, “Our goal is to draw a truly international field of top competitors, from Olympians to amateur champions, who can bring out the best in each other on the water.” Italian sailing icon Giulia Conti praised the event as a “game-changer” for advancing women in the sport, calling it “a tremendous opportunity to celebrate the talent and dedication women bring to sailing.”
