On this spine-chilling episode of Ghost Hunters, the TAPS team investigates a sprawling 40,000-square-foot mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, with an eerie history. Originally built in 1923 in Washington, D.C., the mansion was later transported to Newport and merged with an existing Elizabethan Revival mansion, creating a massive estate that once served as a girls’ boarding school. But it’s not just the architecture that tells a story—the mansion is said to be haunted by Mrs. Bradley, the wife of the original owner, whose ghostly presence has left many unnerved.
The current owners, Denise and Chris Carey, have experienced unsettling phenomena since moving in. They’ve reported hearing disembodied voices, feeling sudden temperature drops in the basement, and seeing door handles moving on their own. The TAPS team, led by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, takes on the challenge of uncovering the mysteries inside.
The investigation kicks off with Jason and Grant chasing loud, unexplained footsteps—so loud, in fact, that Grant calls them the most impressive he’s ever heard during an investigation. Meanwhile, team members Amy Bruni and Adam Berry encounter a whisper and a sigh in real-time. When they play back their recording, they’re startled to hear a clear voice chatting with them. The unsettling moment leaves both investigators rattled.
In the mansion’s Organ Room, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango use an ion generator in hopes of helping the spirits manifest. Their efforts pay off when Tango hears a voice, promising they’ll need to review the recordings closely for more clues. Down in the mansion’s basement, K.J. McCormick and Britt Griffith start a call-and-response session. They receive a knocking sound in reply, and moments later, their thermal camera topples over on its own, as strange noises echo around them.
One of the investigation’s biggest mysteries centers on a self-opening door handle that Jason and Grant can’t explain. When they move to the third floor, they hear noises coming from above. Checking the roof, they find nothing that could account for the sounds.
In the Organ Room, K.J. and Britt feel the unmistakable sensation of someone sitting down beside them on a bench, accompanied by a chilling cold spot. Later, in the basement, Amy and Adam report feeling unseen hands touching their heads. Jason and Grant, investigating further on the third floor, hear banging on a door and discover a hidden room filled with old furniture and cribs. Inside, they hear the muffled voice of a young girl. “This place is out of control,” says Grant, as the team continues to gather evidence.
By the time sunrise arrives, the TAPS team feels they’ve only scratched the surface of the mansion’s secrets. From unexplained voices to moving objects, the night’s events add layers to an already haunting history.
With compelling evidence in hand, the team wraps up what they call one of their most fascinating investigations yet.
