MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — An allergy-friendly soccer clinic led by some of the biggest names in women’s soccer is coming to Aquidneck Island this spring, offering young athletes a rare chance to train with legends while raising awareness around food allergies.
Set for May 3, 2026, the clinic is hosted by Red Sneakers for Oakley in partnership with Team First Soccer Academy and St. George’s School. The event builds momentum toward International Red Sneakers Day on May 20 and celebrates a sport Oakley loved deeply: soccer.
The three-hour clinic will be led by Olympic gold medalists and World Cup champions Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly and Tisha Venturini Hoch. Organizers say the program combines elite-level instruction with a welcoming, allergy-friendly environment that includes education and awareness activities for families.
The clinic is open to children ages 5 to 16 of all skill levels, including beginners. Registration is $150 per participant.
Each child will receive hands-on training with the coaches, along with a Nike soccer ball, Nike T-shirt, autographed player card and a photo with the Hall of Famers. A meet-and-greet and autograph session are also included.
The event will take place at St. George’s School, 372 Purgatory Road, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend and show support — preferably wearing red sneakers in honor of the cause.
Beyond the clinic itself, organizers say the event supports a broader mission in Newport: expanding access to lifesaving epinephrine and helping position the city as a truly allergy-friendly community. With food allergies affecting many families, ensuring public spaces are equipped with epinephrine is seen as a critical step in improving safety and preparedness.
With the World Cup on the horizon and growing awareness around food allergies, the Middletown clinic aims to blend sport, community and education into one impactful day.
