Newport Hospital will be conducting a staged Active Shooter Drill on Thursday, November 30, 2017, from 8 to 10 a.m. The drill will not affect patient care areas, and all appointments and patient care will proceed normally.
Neighbors, patients and staff have been alerted that they may see or hear drill activity during this time, such as police cars, sirens and even the firing of blank rounds. They may also hear mock overhead announcements, such as:
“THIS IS A DRILL. THIS IS A DRILL. Active shooter in basement of Hazard Building.”
There is no cause for alarm: THIS IS ONLY A DRILL.
Our goal is to provide the safest possible environment for our patients, staff and community. Exercises such as these help us to be prepared for all eventualities.
If you have any questions about this drill, or should you receive any inquiries from the public, please feel free to direct them to David Levesque, director of public relations, at 401-444-7299.
