The Newport, RI Ancient Order of Hibernian’s Pipes and Drums band is headed to Ireland in March 2016 to participate in an international parade of pipe bands commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising.
The parade will honor those who fought for Ireland’s independence during the 1916 Rising, with a special tribute to the Volunteers linked to establishing pipe bands. In the early part of the 20th century, the Irish Volunteers helped establish over 20 pipe bands, some of which are still in existence today, including the St. Laurence O’Toole, Black Raven, Na Fianna Éireann, Fintan Lalor and Cork Volunteer pipe bands.
Three of the the executed 1916 leaders played the Irish war pipes, Tomás MacDonagh, Eamonn Ceannt and Con Colbert.
The parade will taken place in Dublin on March 26, 2016.
