The Newport Hospitality Commission is excited to announce the return of world-renowned classical guitarist Diego Campagna to Newport for a special concert to benefit the City’s music programming at Thompson Middle School.
Campagna, a native of Imperia, Italy, will help kick off Memorial Day Weekend with a performance on Thursday, May 23rd at St. Mary’s Church on Spring Street, beginning at 6 p.m.
This will mark the second Newport appearance for Campagna, who last played to a sold out audience as part of the City’s 275th anniversary celebration.
Born in our Sister City of Imperia, Italy, Campagna has performed all over the world, delighting audiences with his masterful musicianship. He made his American debut at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in 2015, where he received a coveted standing ovation. Campagna is due to play Carnegie Hall again later this month before visiting Newport where he’ll be joined by members of the Thompson Middle School orchestra.
In a gesture to help further strengthen the ties between Newport and Imperia, Campagna, a visiting professor at the prestigious Julliard School in New York City, will also be hosting a masterclass for members of the Thompson Middle School music program during his stay and proceeds from his performance will benefit the Newport Public Education Foundation’s musical endeavors for Thompson
Middle School.
Tickets for the performance are currently on sale at bit.ly/DiegoNpt with an admission price of $25 for adults and $10 for Students. A reception with the artist will follow the performance at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Free parking is available in the lots adjacent to the church.
