Coast Guard Searching For Missing Boater in Buzzards Bay

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching Buzzards Bay after an abandoned 29-foot sportcraft was found going in circles with it’s throttle engaged 1/2 mile off of the coast of Marion, MA.

The Coast Guard said a call came in around 4 pm after a boat came alongside the boat and discovered that no one was on board.

Coast Guard Stations Woods Hole and Cape Cod Canal launched a 45-foot response boat crew and 29-foot response boat crew, and Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod launched a MH-60 helicopter crew. The Coast Guard Cutter Ocracoke, multiple local government agencies and three good Samaritans have also responded.

The Coast Guard is searching an area from Buzzard’s Bay to Nye’s Neck. They are set to search through the night and into tomorrow.

The vessel has since been secured at the town dock in Onset, Massachusetts.
