David Ortiz promised Maverick, a young fan battling a heart condition that he’d hit a homerun for him in the Red Sox Friday night game against the New York Yankees and boy did he ever deliver. Big Papi crushed a 2-run home run into the Green Monster seats in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Red Sox a 4-2 win over the visiting Yankees.

This is why I love sports and why David Ortiz will forever be in the pantheon of Boston sports legends. How incredible it is to give hope to this young boy.
