Governor Raimondo Declares June ‘Pride Month’ in Rhode Island

Governor Gina M. Raimondo today signed a proclamation declaring June ‘Pride Month’ in the State of Rhode Island. Joined by members of Rhode Island’s LGBTQIA+ community, the Governor reinforced her commitment to upholding the values of inclusion and tolerance that have defined Rhode Island since its founding.

“The Rhode Island LGBTQIA+ community has made countless contributions to our state that we celebrate not only during Pride Month but every day of the year. I stand with the community and support them,” said Governor Raimondo. “This month serves as a reminder that we must always remain dedicated to the cause of equality. The values of tolerance and freedom that our state was founded upon remain as important as ever, and I am committed to ensuring Rhode Island remains a place where people from all walks of life are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”

The full text of the proclamation can be found below:

WHEREAS, the LGBTQIA+ community has fought tirelessly for inclusion, equality, and inclusivity; and

WHEREAS, in light of continued attacks on members of the LGBTQIA+ community, especially against people of color, we have all the more reason to be more inclusive and to remain vigilant and united; and

WHEREAS, in Rhode Island, we remain committed to treating people of all walks of life with fairness and respect; and

WHEREAS, going forward we should continue to energize and serve as allies and activists for different marginalized communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gina M. Raimondo, Governor of the State of Rhode Island, do hereby proclaim June 2019, as: Pride Month in the state and encourage all residents to join me in recognizing the importance of this month.
