Letter: “I heartily recommend that Newport voters elect Marco to the Newport City Council”

To the Editor:

I would like to add my voice to those who have expressed their support for Marco Camacho for the Newport Council At-Large seat. I have had the privilege of working with Marco in a variety of civic projects and organizations. Marco and I served together on the committee exploring the merging of Rogers and Middletown High Schools. Marco’s perspective was always thoughtful and fact-based. He was exceptionally mindful of what would be best for Newport and Middletown high school students and how the two schools might be successfully combined while preserving the traditions of each high school and improving the variety and depth of course offerings. Marco is committed to exploring ways to improve the education and welfare of our students while protecting the interests of the taxpayers.

I have also had the privilege of serving with Marco on the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission (AIPC) Board of Directors. As Newport City Council liaison to the Board and as a Board member, Marco has ensured that the views of the Newport Council were accurately conveyed to the Board and the projects undertaken by AIPC were carefully coordinated with the Newport Council and the Newport City Staff. In my experience, Marco has always been diligent in fully understanding and analyzing the impacts of projects and ensuring that the AIPC Board appreciated the City Council’s perspective.

Marco has also shown a unique ability to bring to the AIPC Board an Island-wide perspective and appreciation for the needs of our Island community.

In sum, based on my experience working with Marco for the past several years, I heartily recommend that Newport voters elect Marco to the Newport City Council.
