The Newport County Chamber of Commerce has released at statement via the Pawtucket Red Sox in support of the $83 million PawSox stadium plan that includes $38 millin in public funding through bonds.
The statement reads:
“The Newport County Chamber of Commerce is one of Rhode Island’s largest business advocacy organizations formed to enhance the business, civic and economic vitality of Newport County and greater Rhode Island. Our purpose is to leverage the region’s core assets to find solutions in the areas that matter most to the business and community, quality jobs, quality growth and quality of life.
As such, the Newport County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors supports the Pawtucket Red Sox proposal to build a new facility in Pawtucket, RI, in a public private partnership with the State, City and private owners. In so doing, we support the jobs that will be maintained and developed in both the short and long term due to this project, as well as the approximate $3 million annually in State and City tax revenue. We believe the revenue generated annually will help to revitalize the host community and present positive economic development opportunities for the broader area. We also firmly support the concept of public private partnerships and the importance of Commerce Corporation of RI to invest in projects that have positive economic impact implications for the region and enable growth and expansion among RI’s prominent industry sectors.”
