Adam Zaff, a lifelong Newporter who now splits time between Newport and Los Angeles, is a finalist for National Geographic’s prestigious “Nature Photographer of the Year” for this stunning photograph taken in Amboseli, Kenya.
A group of hyenas attempted to take on two lionesses who they sensed were either old or injured. The standoff lasted about 30 minutes, but in the end the hyenas were no match for the two lionesses who were able to get away unscathed.
Zaff’s shot has been garnering significant press around the world, most recently being featured in publications in Great Britain, Australia, France, South Africa, Russia, Portugal, Greece, Indonesia, Slovakia, Vietnam, and Germany.
Voting is open until November 17th.
