An Amtrak Northeast regional train struck and killed a person at 10:13 am Thursday morning just west of Providence Station.
Amtrak described the person as a “trespasser” and said that none of the 19 passengers or crew were injured in the incident. The trespasser was hit by Amtrak Northeast Regional train 93 traveling between Boston and Norfolk, VA.
Amtrak police are working with local authorities to investigate. The trains are running approximately 2 hours behind schedule.
Each year approximately 2000 people are killed or injured by trains in grade crossings and trespassing incidents nationwide.
This is a developing story….
