Governor Raimondo tells NBC 10 it’s “pretty likely” school openings will be delayed

“We need a little more time”

Governor Gina Raimondo said that school reopenings will “pretty likely” be delayed in an interview with NBC 10 News on Tuesday.

“Here’s what I’ve told everybody. We’re not opening until we’re ready. I want schools to open. We need to get these kids back in school. It will be safe to get them back in school if we do it right. We need a little more time. The planning to get this right with the testing, the transportation, the mask wearing, extra space in the classroom,” Raimondo said. “It’s just a lot of planning. I promised everybody we’re not going to do it until we’re ready. So I’m spending a little more time today listening to teachers, listening to districts, and such, and I think it’s pretty likely we’re going to give them a little bit more time so we’re ready when we decide to go back.”

In an interview with ABC6, Raimondo said “if today was August 31st (first day of school), Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls would not be cleared to go back for full in-person.”

Raimondo is expected to discuss school reopenings during her Wednesday weekly press conference at 1pm. Watch here -> https://www.facebook.com/NewportBuzz/

But let’s be real for a second. the teachers unions don’t want to go back, parents are scared out of their minds to send their children back and we’ve already seen hundreds of students quarantined as schools reopen in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, and Mississippi.

Zero chance our kids go back to school for in-person learning on August 31st.

Rhode Island surpassed 20,000 positive cases today.
