RIP Douglas Reynolds

Douglas A. Reynolds, age 57, of Florida died February 5, 2021 from complications due to COVID-19. He was born in Newport, R.I. on September 23, 1963 to Elmer and Marion “Ella” Reynolds. Doug worked at Shaw’s Grocery store while attending Rogers High School. Soon after graduation, he served as an Army Medic in Germany for 3-years. After his discharge from the service, he traveled and spent time in Australia where he was able to explore the continent “on a shoestring” by hiking and camping.

Upon his return to the U.S., he continued to work in Supermarket chains in Rhode Island and Florida before obtaining his Commercial Driver’s License. During the last 25-years, his work in the trucking and transportation industries, allowed him the freedom of travel throughout the US and the ability to pursue his passions of meeting new people, photography, and outdoor sports of skiing, riding his motorcycle and hiking. Doug had a great love of animals and his kind-heartedness was evident in the good-natured and well-trained behaviors of his dogs (Scout and Samantha) who traveled on the road with him. He was an accomplished “jack of all trades” completing numerous carpentries, electrical and plumbing projects for his home, and assisting neighbors with yard and fencing repairs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Mark Reynolds and John Reynolds and nephew Patrick Murphy. Those who remain to mourn his passing include his brothers William (Billy) and his wife Beverly Reynolds, Elmer Jr. and his wife Lynn Reynolds, and his sister Tina Murphy-Reynolds. Also surviving Doug is his sister-in-law Loreen Reynolds, his nephews: Matthew Reynolds; Elmer Reynolds III; Michael Reynolds; Jason Reynolds; Justin Murphy; niece Andrea Hall, Uncle to his great-niece and great-nephews Caden, Clara, Chase and Ian Miranda and many loving O’Flaherty, Reynolds, and Rosa cousins. Finally, he leaves his dog Samantha, a sweet border collie to be lovingly cared for by his sister Tina.

The family would like to thank Doug’s neighbors: Karlene and Aura for their kindnesses and concerns for him over the years. A special thank you to the ICU Staff at the hospital for their tireless efforts in the care of Doug and compassionate updates to his family members.

Funeral Services will be private. If you wish to make a charitable donation Doug’s name, please consider the Potter League for Animals, 87 Oliphant Lane Middletown, R.I. 02842 or by visiting www.potterleague.org/donate.
