Veronica “Ronnie” (Grimes) Walworth, 53 of Newport, RI passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, September 24, 2017. She was comforted by her husband, daughters, and siblings at the time of her death. She was the loving and devoted wife of Scott Walworth for 11 years.
Born in Newport, Ronnie was the 16th and youngest child of the late M. Osmond Grimes, MD and Elin (Nelson) Grimes. Being the youngest in such a large family allowed her great privilege and she was dubbed “good news” by her parents.
Ronnie leaves behind two children, Elin Maria of Palm Beach, FL and Chelsea Justine of Quincy, MA, and their father Anthony Motta.
Ronnie is survived by her siblings: Peter and Sally Grimes of Middletown; Dr. Stephen and Jeanne Grimes, Michael and Beth Grimes, Dominic and Jennifer Grimes, all of Portsmouth; Dr. Andrew and Candace Grimes of Garden City, NY; Mark and Karen Grimes of Deland, FL; Christopher and Billie Ann Grimes of Birmingham, AL; Laura Grimes, Bartholomew and Maureen Grimes, Mathew Grimes and Kara Henry, Martin Grimes, all of Newport; Victoria and Brian Sullivan, Valerie and Patrick Kelley, also of Newport. She also leaves behind 29 nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Gregory Paul Grimes, who is survived by his wife Mary Lou, and Nicholas James Grimes.
Ronnie loved adventure and worldwide travel. She lived in Australia, Brazil, Florida, Newport, and the Virgin Islands. Being a free spirit, she loved cooking, entertaining, sailing, rollerblading, dogs and gardening. She held various jobs such as selling real estate and delivering yachts to the Caribbean. Ronnie was a longtime member of the Newport Yacht Club, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Cruising Yacht Club of Western Australia, and the Elks Club. While living in Newport she enjoyed her summers at Hazard’s Beach.
Calling hours will be Friday, September 29, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the O’Neill Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street in Newport. Funeral service will be private.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception for “Captain Ron” after calling hours at La Forge Casino Restaurant, 186 Bellevue Avenue, Newport.
