A boogie boarder in his mid twenties has died from injuries suffered in a shark attack in the waters off Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet at around noon Saturday.
The man was pronounced dead at Cape Cod hospital in Hyannis.
The beach has been closed to swimming.
The attack is the first fatal shark attack in Massachusetts since 1936.
Pretty sad day at the beach today. Amazing effort by everyone who jumped into action to help this young man out. Prayers to him and his family #wellfleet #newcombhollow #sharkattack pic.twitter.com/RJIg4uePSn

This was the second shark attack on Cape Cod this summer.
Newcomb Hollow Beach is approximately 4 1/2 miles south of Long Nook Beach, where a 61-year-old neurologist from Scarsdale, New York, was attacked by a shark on Aug. 15th.
