Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the coun Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the country, but a new study suggests it delivers the biggest romantic payoff.

The Ocean State has been named the most romantic vacation destination in the United States, according to a new analysis from The Resorts Collection, shared with Travel + Leisure.

Rather than relying on marketing campaigns or curated travel lists, the study examined how travelers actually describe their experiences. Researchers analyzed millions of reviews on Tripadvisor, tracking how often the word “romantic” appeared across hotels, restaurants, landmarks, parks, and nature attractions.

Rhode Island stood out across every category. Travelers referenced romance 173 times per 100,000 hotel reviews and logged more than 1,100 romance-related mentions per 100,000 restaurant reviews. The state also posted strong numbers for landmarks and outdoor attractions, helping it finish well above the national average. Overall, romance-related mentions for Rhode Island hotels were more than 50% higher than the U.S. average, while its parks and nature attractions exceeded the national benchmark by more than 93%.

“Couples are usually looking for places that feel special, where they can slow down and enjoy quality time together,” said Florian Pauly, co-founder of The Resorts Collection. He noted the study is rooted in how travelers describe real experiences, rather than how destinations market themselves.

Visitors frequently point to the historic mansions and waterfront scenery of Newport, the state’s iconic lighthouses, sandy beaches, and the dining scene in Providence as reasons for Rhode Island’s strong romantic reputation.

Beyond Rhode Island, Texas ranked second overall, followed by Washington, New York, and Ohio. At the opposite end of the list was Montana, which recorded the fewest romance-related mentions nationwide.

For Rhode Island, the findings confirm what many travelers already know: romance comes down to atmosphere, not size.

A beloved neighborhood haunt is getting a fresh jo A beloved neighborhood haunt is getting a fresh jolt of flavor.

Debbie and Brian Arnold, the owners of Cappy’s Hillside Cafe, are teaming up with chef Julie Livingston of Kitchen Companion Catering and local entrepreneur Liz McKinnon to launch KC at Cappy’s — a reimagined dining concept set to take over the kitchen at 8 Memorial Blvd.

The new operation promises to be your go-to for lunch, dinner, and a can’t-miss Sunday brunch, with a menu that blends crowd-pleasing classics and creative twists.

But first, a brief pause.

The kitchen will close starting Monday, Feb. 16, ahead of a full reboot. Doors swing back open with a Grand Re-Opening bash on Friday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 9 p.m., featuring complimentary tastings of the new menu. Translation: show up hungry and bring friends.

What’s cooking? Think littlenecks with chourico, crave-worthy chicken wings (both classic and creative), a no-nonsense Classic Reuben, and a Hot Roast Beef sandwich stacked high with freshly sliced beef.

Same Cappy’s soul. New kitchen swagger. Newport diners, mark your calendars.

In Portsmouth, a Victorian built in 1869 comes to In Portsmouth, a Victorian built in 1869 comes to market offering history, flexibility, and a strong sense of place.

Priced at $650,000, the home spans 1,619 square feet over two stories, with seven rooms, three bedrooms, and two full bathrooms, all set on a 0.41-acre lot. The interiors reflect the craftsmanship of the period: hardwood floors with a warm patina, pocket doors that quietly separate rooms, and proportions that feel intentional rather than ornate.

The property extends beyond the main house. A paved driveway leads to a detached two-car garage, while a separate shed—large enough to accommodate a greenhouse and workshop—adds rare versatility. Whether used for gardening, growing, storage, or a personal retreat, the outdoor spaces invite creativity alongside everyday living.

Located on East Main Road, the home benefits from steady activity and visibility while remaining just minutes from downtown Bristol and Newport. The setting supports a range of uses, from a primary residence to a coastal escape or a blended live-work arrangement, without sacrificing character or convenience.

Offered at $650,000, 2952 East Main Road presents a chance to own a piece of 19th-century New England—adaptable, well-situated, and ready for its next chapter.
