On a quiet, frigid Tuesday night, @thequenchernewp On a quiet, frigid Tuesday night, @thequenchernewport, with its happy roadside dive vibe, is a welcome respite—bartender Amanda Peloquin its warm, funny host. Petite and sporting a green winter wool cap with a white clover embroidered on the front, she makes me a perfect lemon gimlet with fresh basil while we chat. Across the bar, two guys—first-timers to the place—are already on a first-name basis with @Amanda.peloquin.33. “I like to get to know people, ask their names, find out where they’re from,” she tells me. “I want to make it personal, for people to feel welcome and comfortable when they come in—not like it’s just a transaction.” The single mom to twin eight-year-old girls and a four-year-old son, Peloquin enjoyed a special bond as a child that led to her lifelong love of food and Italian cooking. “My Grandma! My girl! She’s my best friend,” she says, adding without a drop of irony, “4’8” and so spunky!” “The two of us were always in the kitchen. Cooking is a whole love language!” says the maybe-5-foot-and-so-spunky granddaughter. There’s something magnetic and a little mysterious about Peloquin, with her no-nonsense, witty charm and kindness. When she arrived at The Quencher, she knew she had found a home. “This is it,” she says. “This is my place. It feels like a bar in your basement, where your friends come over and you’re happy with everyone around you. Nothing’s forced.” Her respect runs deep for owners Scott and Adriene Kirmil, whose reputation for treating staff like family precedes them, as well as for Chef Joey Piotti and her co-workers. A diverse demographic, multiple events for all ages, and genuine camaraderie make for a sweet fit for this bartender. Still, if Grandma’s influence had anything to do with it, food must have played a central role in her decision to call The Quencher home. “The Funghi Pasta? That’s a game-changer dish right there. Authorities are continuing their investigation aft Authorities are continuing their investigation after a Drug Enforcement Administration operation erupted into gunfire Thursday afternoon in the Home Depot parking lot on West Main Road in Middletown, leading to a police chase and two hospitalizations. Exclusive drone footage captures the dramatic scen Exclusive drone footage captures the dramatic scene that unfolded Thursday afternoon in Middletown, as a law enforcement-involved shooting erupted in the Home Depot parking lot, located at 878 West Main Road. Multiple shots were fired as officers responded to a suspect who struck an officer with their vehicle. According to authorities, members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) were conducting an operation in the parking lot when the suspect attempted to flee, striking an officer. This prompted officers to open fire. The suspect then fled the scene in their vehicle, leading to a pursuit down Ridgewood Road. The chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle collided with a pursuing officer’s vehicle at the end of Ridgewood Road. Both the suspect and the officer were transported to Newport Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Blood can be seen on the driveway in the third video, showing the aftermath of the chaotic scene. Authorities have not released further details on the suspect or officer's condition. The incident is under investigation by the Middletown Police Department, the Rhode Island State Police, the Attorney General’s Office, and the DEA.
