Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. “Everything will be revealed,” Trump declared while signing an executive order mandating swift disclosure of these records, reigniting hope for answers after decades of speculation and conspiracy theories. The directive calls the release “long overdue” and requires the Justice Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to draft disclosure plans. Agencies must outline a strategy within 15 days for JFK-related files and 45 days for RFK and MLK documents. “After more than 50 years, the families of these victims — and the American people — deserve the truth,” the order states. Trump’s decision follows years of frustration over withheld records, despite a 1992 law mandating their release unless national security concerns were cited. During his first term, Trump pushed for transparency in 2017 and 2018, directing agencies to reevaluate JFK file redactions. However, further delays occurred under President Joe Biden, who postponed full disclosure multiple times from 2021 to 2023. On Thursday, Trump emphasized that withholding the files is “not in the public interest” and pledged full transparency. The move fulfills a campaign promise Trump made during his 2024 run. “When I return to the White House, I will declassify and unseal all JFK assassination-related documents,” he vowed in June 2024. “It’s been 60 years — time for the American people to know the TRUTH!” Lingering questions about the assassinations have fueled public skepticism and conspiracy theories for decades. Newport Hospital has appointed Sarah Nekrasz, MSN, Newport Hospital has appointed Sarah Nekrasz, MSN, RN, BC, FPCC, as its new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Nekrasz, who has been serving as interim CNO since September 2024, brings more than 26 years of experience at the hospital to her new role. “Sarah’s compassion for patients and staff alike, and her relentless pursuit of exceptional care makes her the perfect fit to lead our nursing department moving forward,” said Nicholas Dominick, interim president of Newport Hospital. Nekrasz has held various leadership positions, including Director of the Center for Professional Practice and Innovation and Magnet Program Coordinator, where she advanced clinical excellence and helped maintain Magnet Recognition. Her prior roles include oversight of Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Rehabilitation, and Wound Care departments, as well as serving on the Clinical Quality and Safety Council. “I am deeply honored to be named Chief Nursing Officer,” said Nekrasz. “I’ve seen firsthand the impact that dedicated, compassionate care can have on our patients and their families. I am committed to supporting our exceptional nursing team and fostering a culture of excellence.” Nekrasz earned her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership from Walden University in 2018, after attending Salve Regina University and the Community College of Rhode Island. She is a certified Medical-Surgical Nurse and a member of RISNA, ANA, and AONL. Newport restaurateurs Richard Sardella and Patrick Newport restaurateurs Richard Sardella and Patrick Fitzgerald have reason to celebrate after their “Cuisine For A Cause” fundraising drive exceeded expectations, raising over $12,000 for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center of Newport. The drive, held over the MLK holiday weekend, was spearheaded by @sardellas Italian Restaurant and its sister eatery, @imbriglios_napoletana Pizzeria. The restaurants pledged to donate 20% of gross sales with a goal of $10,000 to support the Center’s critical hunger relief programs. Thanks to an outpouring of community support, the final donation totaled $12,565. “It was wonderful seeing so many friends of the Center enjoying meals at Sardella’s and Imbriglio’s over MLK weekend,” said Heather Hole Strout, executive director of the @newportmlk. “This generous donation comes at a perfect time when our clients need us more than ever. @salveregina announced Thursday a $5 million gift @salveregina announced Thursday a $5 million gift from Trustee Barbara A. Papitto to fund the construction of a new student center pavilion on its oceanfront campus. The Papitto Pavilion will provide a versatile space for student life, programming, and events. The 5,400-square-foot structure will be located between Gerety Hall and McKillop Library on Ochre Point Avenue. Designed by DBVW Architects of Providence, the pavilion will preserve the surrounding Barbara Mallardi Rose Garden and complement Newport’s historic architecture. Construction is set to begin in summer 2025, with completion expected by fall 2026. The pavilion will seat up to 300 people in a lecture-style setup and include a catering kitchen, making it ideal for student organizations, retreats, and career-connected programming. “Barbara Papitto is recognized across our state for her incredible generosity and devotion to reducing barriers for people through education,” said Salve Regina President Kelli J. Armstrong. “The Papitto Pavilion will empower our students to chart their educational journey with purpose and provide a beautiful space for student organizations to hold events and build community.
