Gas prices made a bigger jump this past week, with Gas prices made a bigger jump this past week, with the national average for a gallon of regular going up by more than 10 cents to $3.26. Several factors are driving the increase, including refinery maintenance and summer-blend gasoline switch. The last time the national average reached $3.26 was back in September, consistent with seasonal shifts, but current prices remain below what they were this time last year.  Today’s National Average: $3.26   One Month Ago: $3.09  One Year Ago: $3.54  According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 8.64 b/d last week to 8.49. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 239.1 million barrels to 237.6. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.3 million barrels per day.  Oil Market Dynamics  At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose 51 cents to settle at $71.71 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 6.2 million barrels from the previous week. At 439.8 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.  State Stats  Gas  The nation’s top 10 most expensive gasoline markets are California ($4.91), Hawaii ($4.52), Washington ($4.30), Nevada ($3.99), Oregon ($3.93), Alaska ($3.53), Illinois ($3.52), Arizona ($3.42), Idaho ($3.38), and Pennsylvania ($3.37).   The nation’s top 10 least expensive gasoline markets are Mississippi ($2.74), Tennessee ($2.80), Oklahoma ($2.81), Louisiana ($2.82), Alabama ($2.85), Texas ($2.87), Arkansas ($2.87), Kansas ($2.87), South Carolina ($2.87), and Kentucky ($2.89).  #gasprices #newportbuzz #unitedstates
Trout season officially kicks off across Rhode Isl Trout season officially kicks off across Rhode Island at 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, with more than 60,000 brook, brown, rainbow, and golden rainbow trout stocked in over 100 freshwater locations, according to the Department of Environmental Management. All trout-stocked waters are closed to fishing until Opening Day to give fish time to acclimate and spread out. The DEM reminds anglers that no trout or salmon may be kept—even from non-stocked waters—until the season begins. “Opening Day is a spring tradition for thousands of Rhode Islanders,” said DEM Director Terry Gray. “The work and logistics involved in raising and stocking 60,000 trout are intense, and I’m proud of our fisheries team for making it happen.” As a bonus, anyone who catches a golden rainbow trout between April 12 and May 6 can earn a limited-edition golden trout pin. Just snap a photo and email it to DEM for verification by May 5. Anglers 15 and older must have a 2025 fishing license, and those keeping trout need a Trout Conservation Stamp (with some exceptions for border lakes and ponds). Safety is key: All paddlers in kayaks, canoes, and paddle craft must wear a personal flotation device at all times, and everyone is encouraged to dress for cold weather to prevent hypothermia. The daily trout/salmon limit is five from April 12–Nov. 30, dropping to two in winter. Specific areas, such as parts of the Falls and Beaver rivers, are catch-and-release only. Adequoyah Mathews, a 17-year-old student at The ME Adequoyah Mathews, a 17-year-old student at The MET High School East Bay Campus, has been named the 2025 Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Club of Newport County @bgcnewportri — the organization’s top honor recognizing leadership, academics, and service. The award ceremony took place at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport campus, where Mathews rose above finalists David, Sasha, and Jayla. Though new to the club, Mathews has quickly made her mark. She leads the club’s ABAR (Anti-Bias, Anti-Racist) initiative and captains the Ethics Team, balancing activism with academic ambition. She hopes to enroll in the Brown University/RISD dual degree program to study political science and pursue a career in social justice. “Leadership is about inspiring others to rise, advocate for themselves, and challenge the status quo. A true leader empowers individuals to use their voices for transformation and growth. Let’s create spaces where everyone feels confident to make a lasting impact. Step up, speak out, and be the change.” Judges T.R. McGrath, Angela Lima, and Margaret Sullivan-Carr selected the winner based on leadership, service, academic performance, and public speaking.
