On Saturday, April 18, presented by the Heritage R On Saturday, April 18, presented by the Heritage Restaurant Group, the Philly-based seven-piece band @snacktime is coming to Newport to light up the Jane Pickens Theater.

Fresh off their 2025 set at the Newport Folk Festival and ahead of their 2026 appearance at Lollapalooza, SNACKTIME is returning to Newport ready to bring the energy back to the stage.

In honor of the 4/20 weekend, @newportcannaco and Aquidneck Island-based gummy brand @rhodeisland_rhodies are helping set the tone—presenting the show and including a pack of edibles with every ticket purchase to elevate the experience.

New England-based musician @zanechristopher along with Newport’s own @birdstickband will open the night.

Early bird tickets are $45, increasing to $50 in April.

A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center food bank, as well as the New England Music Organization — the driving force behind Waterfront Concerts in King Park, NeeJam, NIMFest, and the Broadway Street Fair stage each year. Supporting sponsors include Newport Craft Brewing, Canncure, Coast Cannabis, and Talaria, all planning product giveaways in support of the event.

SNACKTIME got their start performing free shows in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square in the summer of 2020, quickly drawing large crowds. They went on to sell out their first headlining club show with over 900 tickets, and have since continued that momentum—supporting national touring acts like Portugal The Man and performing at major festivals including Life Is Beautiful, Sound on Sound, Sea.Hear.Now., and Firefly.

Rhode Island is investing millions into outdoor sp Rhode Island is investing millions into outdoor spaces — and communities in Newport County are among the big winners.

Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced more than $5.7 million in matching Outdoor Recreation Grants to 15 municipalities statewide, funding projects from playgrounds to fitness areas and shared-use paths.

In Newport, the city secured the maximum $500,000 award to develop the John Chafee Boulevard Recreation Area. Plans include a new splash pad, shaded gathering space, ADA-accessible restrooms and improved walkways — upgrades aimed at expanding access to family-friendly recreation.

In nearby Portsmouth, officials were awarded $155,761 to build a new outdoor fitness facility geared toward older adults. The project will feature accessible exercise equipment, instructional signage, safety surfacing and shaded areas designed to support active aging.

State leaders said the competitive grant program drew 50 applications requesting nearly five times the available funding, underscoring demand for upgraded public spaces.

“Green spaces, playgrounds and recreational assets are essential to our communities,” McKee said, noting investments like these improve public health, mental well-being and overall quality of life.

DEM Director Terry Gray said the program continues to deliver results in every corner of the state, funding everything from ballfields to hiking trails.

The grants are funded through voter-approved Green Bond initiatives and require matching funds from municipalities. Awards range from $100,000 to $500,000 depending on project scope.

Since launching in 1988, the program has awarded more than 580 grants totaling over $96 million across all 39 Rhode Island communities.

Outdoor recreation remains a major economic driver in Rhode Island, generating $2.4 billion in consumer spending and supporting roughly 24,000 jobs statewide, according to industry data.
