Robert Redford, Rooney Mara and Jason Segel will star in a sci-fi love story “The Discovery,” with shooting planned to begin this spring in Newport, RI.
The film, set in a world one year after the existence of the afterlife has been scientifically proven. Segel plays the son of the man responsible for this discovery and Mara plays a woman he falls in love with whose life is tinged by a tragic past.
The film will be directed by Charlie McDowell from a script he co-wrote with Justin Lader.
Robert Redford famously shot “The Great Gatsby” with Mia Farrow here in Newport, RI back in 1973.
Jason Segel’s part was originally cast for Nicholas Hoult and Jim Carrey was originally rumored to be slated for Redford’s role.
