Children in Newport’s Fifth Ward will soon have a new place to play, as the City’s Department of Public Services works to complete a state-of-the-art and ADA-accessible playground in Morton Park.
First installed in 1991, the original Morton Park Playground had been the City’s oldest, and in recent years has begun to show its age.
The new playground, which will complement the existing merry-go-round and swing set, will feature a climbing tower, slide, and several overhead climbing and gliding elements. Getting to the playground will also be easier. In preparation for the new structure, the City recently installed a new sidewalk leading to the site where the existing sand is also being replaced with structural wood fiber to make the facility ADA compliant.
Crews from the City’s Department of Public Services hope to have the new playground in place and ready for fun in the coming weeks.
