A 50-year-old woman was injured shortly after 11am this morning after an explosion that evacuated Salty Brine Beach in Narragansett.

Witnesses report that a man was spotted burying something in the sand, and then fled up the beach towards Roger Wheeler state beach just prior to the explosion. The explosion caused the woman to be blown into the rocks on the right side of the beach. The woman was taken to South County Hospital and no other details about her condition are known.

State Police and Narragansett Police are currently investigating with a bomb squad. Salty Brine State Beach remains closed.
