The Coast Guard is searching for two missing boaters Monday morning who failed to return from a fishing trip near Block Island, Rhode Island.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Southeastern New England received a report that 54-year-old Linda Carmen and her 22-year-old son Nathan Carmen failed to return from an offshore fishing trip. They departed Ram’s Point Marina in Point Judith, Rhode Island Saturday evening in a 32-foot aluminum center console boat.
Sector Southeastern New England issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 45-foot rescue boat from Station Point Judith as well as a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a HC-144 fixed wing aircraft from Air Station Cape Cod. In addition, the Block Island Harbormaster conducted searches in and around Block Island last night.
The Coast Guard search continues Monday with the Coast Guard Cutter Bonito, Station Point Judith, and aircraft from Air Station Cape Cod. Additionally, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is searching near southern Narragansett Bay.
