“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday by far,” “Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday by far,” says @calebandbroad’s Rich Willis. “You have one responsibility, to eat and drink all day. How bad can that be?” It’s been 10 years since the Middletown native opened his own Newport restaurant and started a new tradition, hosting his whole family, about 20 of them, in the space. “And the number may increase. If somebody’s not doing anything I want to make sure they have a place to go,” he said. This year, Caleb & Broad’s new chef, Kaitlin Boissonneau, will be joining the celebration along with her dad. “She’s our new rock star in the kitchen, taking our menu to the next level. Her flavors are spot on, and you can see the love of what she does and taste it in her dishes,” said Willis. The family and friends each bring an assigned dish, and Willis relishes the entire spread. “On Thanksgiving, I eat until I want to explode,” he says. Once the master of the mashies, whose secret was roasted garlic and locally sourced spuds, Willis said he’s graduated from potatoes to chief turkey roaster. This year, he’s planning on two birds, at 15 to 20 lbs. each, which he’ll brine for a couple of days with salt, sugar, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic and roast at 325 degrees, bumping up the temp to 425 for the final 45 minutes. But it’s his mom who conjures his best childhood food memories annually with her homemade gravy and award-winning apple and pumpkin pies. “Desserts are my favorite,” he says. Willis said he’s most excited to share the holiday this year with his son who is now old enough to appreciate the occasion, and though 2024 marks the first year that his father, William Willis, aka “Pops,” who passed away in October, won’t be at the table, the adults will be raising a glass to his memory. “He always brought a bottle of Gentleman Jack,” Willis said. Jay Leno has proven once again that nothing can st Jay Leno has proven once again that nothing can stop him—not even a 60-foot fall. The 74-year-old former Tonight Show host turned heads at his latest comedy gig sporting an eye patch, a bruised face, and a broken wrist after an impromptu shortcut to dinner turned into a disaster. While staying at a Hampton Inn in Pennsylvania before a Pittsburgh show, Leno decided to skip the mile-and-a-half walk down the road and opted for a more “direct” route—down a steep hill. “I’m a little beat up,” Leno quipped to Inside Edition. “I fell 60 feet. Boom, boom, boom, boom.” The comedian said he hit several rocks on the way down, leaving him “all black and blue” and with a finger missing a nail. A rock also struck him in the eye, forcing him to wear an eye patch. When asked if he was worried about his vision, Leno shrugged it off. “It’ll be fine. I’m not worried about it,” he said. Amazingly, Leno went on stage just three hours later to perform for a packed house. “When you’ve got 2,600 people waiting on you, the show must go on,” he told TMZ. This latest mishap adds to Leno’s growing list of injuries in recent years. In early 2023, he suffered broken ribs, a collarbone, and cracked kneecaps after being knocked off his motorcycle. Just months before that, he endured severe burns when a fire broke out in his garage, leaving him hospitalized with injuries to his face, chest, and hands. Delta Air Lines is partnering with Shake Shack to Delta Air Lines is partnering with Shake Shack to offer its iconic cheeseburgers to First Class passengers on select flights, starting Dec. 1. The collaboration will debut on routes departing from Boston Logan Airport that are over 900 miles, with plans to expand to more U.S. markets in 2025. Passengers will have the option to pre-order a Shake Shack Cheeseburger as part of their in-flight meal. The Shake Shack Cheeseburger features a 100% Angus beef patty with cheese on a toasted potato bun. Passengers can customize their meal to include ShackBurger toppings like tomato, lettuce, and ShackSauce, served on the side. The meal also comes with chips, a Caesar salad, and a dark chocolate brownie inspired by Shake Shack’s dessert flavors. Passengers in First Class can pre-select the Shake Shack Cheeseburger using the Fly Delta app or an email link. The new structure, prominently situated along Mill Street and Queen Anne Square, marks a significant expansion for the church, blending historical reverence with modern functionality. The building will house two classrooms for the church’s growing Sunday School programs, a nursery, accessible clergy offices, committee meeting rooms, and a 1,500-square-foot terrace. Visible from the street, the steel frame of the structure is already in place, signaling rapid progress toward its anticipated completion in mid-2025. The building’s design, by architect Jeff Moniz Jr. and Melissa Breen of 2 Hands Studio, harmonizes with the existing campus. Its traditional materials and forms are complemented by a glass facade facing Queen Anne Square, symbolizing the church’s openness and engagement with the community. “This design bridges the historical language of Trinity’s campus with a forward-looking sensibility,” Moniz explained. “The glass facade embodies the church’s desire to connect with Newport in meaningful ways.” A milestone celebration on Sunday, November 17, 2024, marked the culmination of 12 years of planning. Children from the Sunday School donned Trinity-branded hard hats emblazoned with the phrase “We’re Building!” while Interim Rector Timothy Safford led prayers and blessings. The remains of Charlotte Lester, who vanished in M The remains of Charlotte Lester, who vanished in May 2022, have been discovered in Exeter, Warwick police announced Wednesday. A suspect, Mark Perkins, 64, of Warwick, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The case saw a breakthrough earlier this week when a hunter alerted authorities to human remains in a wooded area. Testing by the state medical examiner confirmed the remains were those of Lester, an East Greenwich resident with family in Newport. “The Warwick Police Department is saddened to announce that human remains have been found and have been positively identified as belonging to Charlotte Lester,” Commander Michael Lima said during a Wednesday news conference. “We extend our deepest condolences to Charlotte’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.” A hunter provided crucial information that led authorities to the area, according to Lima. He noted that while police always suspected something had happened to Charlotte, the absence of her remains had been a significant challenge in the case. Perkins, described by police as a past companion of Lester, was apprehended at a Cumberland Farms convenience store on Post Road. He is set to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon at Kent County District Courthouse. Lester, 44, was last seen alive on May 16, 2022, in the Arnold’s Neck Drive and Staples Avenue area of Warwick. Her Toyota Tacoma was later found abandoned at Kent Hospital, and her dog was located wandering on Elmwood Avenue. Despite months of searching, no trace of Lester was found until this week. Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi commended the police for their relentless dedication to the case. “This meant something to them personally,” he said. “Our detective division never let this go, and I am happy for Charlotte’s family. Known for its bold flavors and spice levels ranging from mild to the fiery “Reaper,” Dave’s Hot Chicken has become one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the U.S. since its humble beginnings in 2017. Three childhood friends started the concept with just $900, a portable fryer, and a dream to bring their hot chicken recipe to life. What began as a small pop-up in an East Hollywood parking lot quickly gained traction thanks to social media buzz and a rave review from Eater LA.
