A Rhode Island state rep was busted for drunk driv A Rhode Island state rep was busted for drunk driving early Monday after cops found him sitting at a green light in Cranston, police said. Democratic Rep. Enrique Sanchez, 28, was behind the wheel of a gray Nissan at 3 a.m. when officers noticed he wasn’t moving despite the light turning green on Reservoir Avenue, according to Cranston Police Col. Michael Winquist. When an officer approached, Sanchez allegedly seemed confused, reeked of booze, and had bloodshot, watery eyes. At first, he denied drinking but later admitted to having a drink, police said. Bodycam footage shows Sanchez telling the cop he was “just parked.” When asked where he was coming from, the second-term lawmaker claimed he was on his way back to Providence from a friend’s house in Central Falls—but he was actually driving in the opposite direction, according to police. Sanchez then refused a breathalyzer and field sobriety tests before being cuffed and hauled off to the station, police said. The arrest report, filed by Officer Chavelle Lopez, states that when approached, Sanchez first tried to hand the officer a debit card instead of his license. The pol allegedly fumbled through his wallet before producing the correct ID and admitted to taking Adderall for ADHD. After being pulled from the car, Sanchez repeatedly put his hands in his pockets despite the officer’s warnings, cops said. “He asked if he chose not to do the field sobriety tests, if he could then order an Uber ride,” the report states. The officer informed him that wasn’t an option. Sanchez was arrested and hit with a DUI charge, plus a citation for refusing the sobriety test. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday morning and was released.
