RIP Jean Winthrop

Jean C. (Nicholson) Winthrop, 90, of 59 Honeyman Avenue, Middletown, RI, died on Wednesday, December 06, 2017 at Village House Nursing Home in Newport. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Winthrop, Ret. NPD.

Born in Newport, RI on May 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ellen (Ferri) Nicholson.

As a young woman, Jean worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph and the Newport School Lunch Program before raising her family. She was a communicant of St. Lucy’s Church. Nana loved her time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed baking and playing bingo.

She is survived by her daughters Ellen Wilbur and her husband Bruce of Newport, and Jean C. Winthrop of Middletown, her daughter-in-law Linda (Brinton) Winthrop of Middletown, eight grandchildren, Patrick Hamel, Sharlene Almazan, Richard Hamel, Tracy Bolano, Amy Evans, Joseph Winthrop, Christine McCormack, Michael Burkinshaw, and seven great grandchildren, Cameron Almazan, Andrew and Ella Bolano, Sarah and Abigail Evans, Ryan and Matthew McCormack.

She was the mother of the late Joseph F. Winthrop and Rita A. Hamel, and the sister of the late Elizabeth Sullivan, Ellen Dennett and her twin Sarah Silvia.

Calling hours will be omitted.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 10:00am in St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
