The body of Bristol, RI Police Officer Richard Jean-Georges was found dead Tuesday afternoon off the coast of Costa Rica. Costa Rican authorities are preparing to collect the body.
Jean-Georges was reported missing on Saturday night after being swept to sea by a strong rip tide at Jacó Beach, on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast.
According to the Red Cross, they received a call of “two people disappeared, possibly due to strong waves.”. The National Air Vigilance Service, the Coast Guard and the Red Cross launched a rescue operation by air, sea and land to locate Jean-Georges.
Richard Jean-Georges was born on Oct. 18, 1985 in Boston, Mass., he was the son of Emmanuel and Gladys Jean-Georges of West Greenwich, R.I and brother to Manny and Cindy Jean-Georges.
Prior to his work with the Bristol Police Department, Jean-Georges played soccer at the University of Rhode Island.
