Obituary: Monica Rita Marcucci (1923-2026)

Monica Rita Marcucci, 102, of Middletown, RI passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, surrounded by family and one of her devoted private duty aides.

Monica was born in Newport, RI to Felix and Rose Lincourt on August 8, 1923. She attended St. Mary’s School from first through eighth grade and then attended St. Joseph High School near Washington Square.

Monica enjoyed many jobs during her lifetime, including being a nanny and cook for a doctor’s family, clerking in a perfume store on Thames Street, and working in a Fanny Farmer chocolate store that sold 2 pounds of chocolate for $1.10. She also sold insurance on the Navy base, and she and husband Vic had two successful businesses throughout their married life. They were partners in Aquidneck Laundromats with Vic’s sister Esther and husband Everett. Later, they established Papa Vic’s Pizza in Middletown, RI, where she worked until her retirement.

Monica’s life was guided by a strong faith in the Catholic Church. Monica was a fabulous cook, and although French Canadian, she was famous for her Italian food, learning many recipes from her mother-in-law Teresa. She was a leader for Campfire girls, a CCD assistant at St. Lucy’s church, and enjoyed participating in a woman’s competitive duckpin bowling league. Monica was very artistic, including sign making and painting ceramics. She was a voracious reader, an enthusiastic card player, and her cursive writing was admired by many! She and Vic loved to dance, especially the Foxtrot.

She is survived by her son Michael, of San Gabriel, CA, her daughters, Diane Janaros (Peter) of Newport, RI, and Maryann Hayden (Tom) of Pitman, NJ. Monica is grandmother to Jason (Leslie) Janaros of Woodbridge, VA, PJ (Leslie) Janaros of Charlottesville, VA, Sara (Tom) Feazell of Kingsville, MD, Jesse (Betsy) Hayden of Rehoboth, DE, Kerri (Eric) Glassman of Cherry Hill, NJ, and TJ (Isabel) Hayden of Milford, NJ.

Monica is also great-grandmother to Jadon, Michala, Abbie, Alaina, Toby Madie, and Jacoby Janaros, Julia Janaros, Ethan, Joshua, and Jacob Feazell, Lena Hayden, Henry and Emma Glassman, and Vernon and Daisy Hayden. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Monica was preceded in death by her beloved husband Vic, her parents and siblings; Valentine, Ernestine, Nellie Mae, Paul, Albert, Leo, Arthur, Bertha, Joseph, Eddie, Bill, and Hank Lincourt, Dalvina Clark, Emma Sullivan, Mary Fess, Alice Williams, and Blanche Matthews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her full-time private aides for their compassion and loving care. They would also like to thank the staff at Blenheim Assisted Living where Monica resided for many years.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 22 from 3:00-5:00 pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St, Newport. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, March 23 at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Rd, Middletown at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Newport Memorial Park, 123 Howland Ave, Middletown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Forum Lodge 391 Scholarship Fund (Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America), and mailed to: 3 Michael Terrace, Newport, RI 02840.
