July 23, 1975 – February 27, 2026
Jeremy Alan “Jed” Plotkin, age 50, of Cary, North Carolina, formerly of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on February 27, 2026, after complications related to dialysis while awaiting a kidney transplant.
Born and raised in Newport, Jed was a graduate of Portsmouth Abbey School and went on to earn his degree with honors from Salve Regina University. During his junior year of high school, he spent a formative year in Germany as a Rotary Exchange Student, an experience that broadened his world and remained one of his proudest memories. Jed built his career in the information technology and computer field, where his sharp mind and problem solving abilities were widely appreciated. Outside of work, he was an enthusiastic member of a noted dart team and an active participant in a local trivia team. His remarkable memory for history and events made him a valued teammate and a delight in any conversation.
In his younger years, Jed cherished winter ski trips with his family, and throughout his life he was known for his kind and positive manner, always finding the good in almost any situation.
Jed is survived by his three children, Zachary Plotkin of Garner, NC, and Alex Plotkin and Sandra Plotkin of Coventry, RI; his sister, Amanda C. Plotkin; and his father, Richard A. Plotkin. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Dacey Plotkin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. Mary’s Church, corner of Spring St & Memorial Blvd, Newport at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private.
