Obituary: Richard Kissell (1943-2025)

With sadness and gratitude, we share the passing of Richard Kissell on May 11, 2025, at age 82. Born February 20, 1943, in Bayonne, New Jersey, Richard was a man who led with laughter and kindness.

He loved deeply and expressed it in quiet, joyful ways-his face lit up whenever he saw his devoted wife, Noreen; he filled still moments with singing and whistling; and loved working outdoors in the garden.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Noreen; his children, Suzanne Cardinal (Glen), Meghan Kissell, and Courtney Kissell-Thongtavee (Jeremy); and grandchildren Madeline and Liam Thongtavee, who brought him immense pride and delight. Jason Barnwell, though no longer related by marriage, remained like a son to him. He is survived by his sister Joan Samborski (Joe) and many nieces and nephews.

The wake will be held Sunday, May 18, from 4-6 p.m. at Connors Funeral Home in Portsmouth, and a funeral Mass will take place on Monday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church. Burial to follow immediately at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Hope Alzheimer’s Center.
