The acquisition underscores Blackstone’s continued push into infrastructure investments tied to the travel and leisure sector. Safe Harbor, which owns and operates 138 marinas across the United States and Puerto Rico, is the dominant player in the industry, with significant holdings in key coastal regions, including 18 marinas in Florida, 11 in Rhode Island, nine in Massachusetts, and nine in New York. “Marinas benefit from key long-term thematic tailwinds, including the growth of travel and leisure as well as population inflows into coastal cities,” Heidi Boyd, a senior managing director in Blackstone’s infrastructure business, said in a statement. “We believe Safe Harbor is the best-positioned company in this sector, and we look forward to working with their terrific team to invest behind their existing marinas and to expand their footprint.” The deal is part of Blackstone Infrastructure’s broader expansion, which has seen its assets under management grow approximately 40 percent year-over-year since its inception. The firm now manages $55 billion in infrastructure-related assets, positioning itself as a leading investor in sectors ranging from transportation to energy and leisure. Safe Harbor, headquartered in Dallas, has rapidly expanded its presence over the past decade, capitalizing on the surge in boating and waterfront recreation. Newport City Council will meet in executive sessio Newport City Council will meet in executive session Wed at 5:30pm to decide the fate of City Manager Colin Kennedy, whose seven-month tenure has been marked by blunders, missteps, and outright insubordination. The meeting could determine whether Newport continues in bureaucratic chaos or removes a failed leader. Councilor Carlin called for the session to evaluate Kennedy’s dismal performance—and potentially terminate his contract. If Newport’s leadership values good governance, they should do just that. Kennedy is unfit for the role. His prior experience—running a small Naval Reserves travel office with 20 employees and a $325k budget—was laughably inadequate for managing Newport’s $115M budget and 350 employees. His budget oversight was less than 1/3 of 1% of Newport’s, smaller than Easton’s Beach parking revenue. That should have been a red flag. Predictably, his lack of qualifications has resulted in chaos. City Hall is plagued by low morale, administrative incompetence, and financial mismanagement. Kennedy’s Greatest Failures: Broke Election Law – Used taxpayer money to advocate for a ballot measure, violating RI law. Unilateral Traffic Decisions – Installed a stop sign without council approval, citing a non-existent “emergency.” Speed Camera Debacle – Approved an unauthorized camera, wasting $90k in taxpayer funds. Backroom Deals – Renewed Audrain’s Easton’s Beach concession contract without council approval. Fiscal Mismanagement – Pushed a costly sewer rate hike, botched water billing. Bloated Bureaucracy – Added $500k in executive salaries yet remains ineffective. Attacked Press Freedoms – Violated First Amendment rights, prompting ACLU intervention. Environmental Negligence – Ignored illegal dumping near Easton’s Pond. Overpaid and Underqualified – Earns $225k—$40k more than his highly experienced predecessor. Kennedy’s tenure is a disaster. Newport deserves a manager with expertise, transparency, and competence—qualities Kennedy lacks. Will the council restore integrity to city governance or allow this farce to continue?
