When two world-class sailing communities celebrate When two world-class sailing communities celebrate 25 years of friendship, the itinerary is bound to impress. Last week, a 40-member delegation from Kinsale, Ireland, visited Newport for a packed tour of the city’s landmarks. They stopped at the mansions, City Hall, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, Museum of Newport Irish History, St. Mary’s Church, and the new Rogers High School. Receptions followed at the Edward King House, Hibernian Hall, and Gardiner House. Michael Frawley, Jr., Janice Twomey Nolan, and Tomas O’Brien capped off the week by ringing the bell at the Colony House during a 25th anniversary reaffirmation ceremony. On April 12, the group gathered at The Sailing Museum & National Sailing Hall of Fame for a celebration catered by McGrath Clambakes. Discover Newport’s retired CEO Evan Smith greeted original twinning members like John Twomey, Michael Frawley, Sr., and Dermot Collins. The Newport-Kinsale connection began when Discover Newport was still the Newport County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, led by Rep. Paul Crowley. Alongside David Kerins, the late Joe Brady, and Jerry Harrington, Crowley helped launch the partnership, now celebrated through chef exchanges, rugby tournaments, and education programs. Many praised Kathryn Farrington’s long-standing role in maintaining the bond. This year, an 18-member committee spent months planning the visit. Bandon-Kinsale Mayor Gillian Coughlan called it “soft diplomacy,” saying, “Everyone in this room could feel comfortable reaching out to one another for guidance or help.” Committee Chair Rick O’Neill said the relationship is moving “from strength to strength.” With friendship and great food at its core, some Newporters are already planning a return visit to Kinsale for its Gourmet Food Festival in October. #newportri #kinsale #newportbuzz #ireland #newportkinsale
The @newportjazzfest is set to return to Fort Adam The @newportjazzfest is set to return to Fort Adams State Park this summer for its 71st edition, continuing its legacy as one of America’s most iconic music festivals. From August 1-3, fans will gather on the Newport waterfront for a weekend of genre-defying performances and unforgettable collaborations. Produced by the @newportfestivals Foundation in collaboration with Artistic Director Christian McBride, the festival will once again celebrate jazz’s evolving sound and spirit. This year’s daily lineup includes The Roots, Raye, Thee Sacred Souls, and The Yussef Dayes Experience on Friday. Saturday will see performances from Janelle Monáe, Willow, and Dianne Reeves. The festival closes Sunday with Jacob Collier, Jorja Smith, Esperanza Spalding, and De La Soul. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, April 17 at 1 p.m. ET via DICE. Options include three-day passes, single-day tickets, student pricing, and parking. Children under 10 (except Jazz Lounge) get in free with an adult ticket holder, with a maximum of two children per adult. Softer demand is fueling this downward trend, and with crude as low as it’s been in a few years, drivers may continue to see lower pump prices as summer approaches. * Today’s National Average:  $3.167 * One Week Ago: $3.222 * One Month Ago: $3.078 * One Year Ago: $3.660 According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased slightly from 8.42 b/d last week to 8.46 b/d. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 236.0 million barrels to 234.0. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.4 million barrels per day. The nation’s top 10 most expensive gasoline markets are California ($4.85), Hawaii ($4.51), Washington ($4.33), Oregon ($3.96), Nevada ($3.91), Alaska ($3.65), Illinois ($3.39), Arizona ($3.36), Pennsylvania ($3.36), and Idaho ($3.34).
