Gun fire erupted Tuesday night in Newport’s north end at the Bayside Village apartment complex.
Police say a 23 year-old Middletown man was shot three times in the legs by a 20 year-old Newport man after a fight broke out just after 9:00pm.
The 23 year-old man was taken to Newport Hospital and then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The shooter was arrested 20 year-old Elijah Weeden of Gould Street was arrested nearby and charged with possession of a handgun without a license, possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine. Police are trying to determine if it was the handgun used in the assault. Weeden was held overnight at the Newport Police Station pending arraignment.
