HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE/ELECTRONIC WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULED FOR NEWPORT

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation will be running an Eco-Depot for Household Hazardous Waste and Indie Cycle will be collecting Electronic Waste on September 30th, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The collection will take place at Easton’s Beach, located at 175 Memorial Boulevard. This free program is open to all Rhode Island residents and appointments are recommended to ensure short wait times for hazardous waste. Appointments are not required for the residential electronic waste collection.

Household hazardous waste is anything toxic, corrosive, flammable or poisonous. Some common items for drop-off include gasoline, propane tanks, pool chemicals, oil-based paint, pesticides, lawn chemicals, antifreeze, mercury thermostats and fluorescent light bulbs. When not properly collected and disposed, these materials can cause harm to the local environment by contaminating Rhode Island’s waterways.

For a full list of household hazardous waste materials, please visit www.ecodepotri.org.

Rhode Island Resource Recovery is currently scheduling appointments for the collection and may be reached at (401) 942-1430 x241 for an appointment, or to answer any questions. Additional information on the Eco-Depot program is also available on their website, www.rirrc.org. Indie Cycle will take the following e-waste items at this event: http://indiecycle.blogspot.com/p/what-we-take.html. No appointment is required for this portion of the event.
