RIP Rosemary Grauer

Rosemary T. Grauer, 62, of 400 Broadway, Newport, RI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Newport Hospital after a two month illness.

Born in Newport, RI on August 20, 1954, she is the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Moran) Grauer.

Rosemary was the office manager for the dental office of Dr. John R. Costello in Newport for the past 33 years. Rosemary was a 1972 graduate of Rogers High School and a 1976 graduate of Salve Regina University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in History. She was working on her Master’s Degree in Library Science at C.W. Post College on Long Island when her mother became ill and she returned to Newport to help care for her. Later she helped care for an elderly aunt and uncle and for many years she was the primary caregiver for her brother Philip.

Rosemary was happiest when she was helping those in need. She volunteered at several road races in the area and she was the secretary of the Costello Open charity golf tournament for 33 years. She enjoyed traveling, music, reading and movies.

She is survived by her brothers, William Grauer, Jr. and his companion, Linda Junge, of Long Island, NY and James Grauer of Newport, RI; her sister, Jean Anderson and her husband, Brad, of Charlestown, MA; five nieces and nephews, and a great-niece and great-nephew. She was predeceased by her brothers Kenneth and Philip Grauer, and her sister Patricia Chase.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway at Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI.

Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI.
