1 – Newport International Boat Show (all weekend)
The Newport International Boat Show will feature new sailboats and powerboats, and thousands of products and services from both domestic and international exhibitors.
Multiple waterfront facilities along America’s Cup Avenue host the Show including Newport Yachting Center, Oldport Marine, Bannister’s Wharf and Bowen’s Wharf. All Show sites are accessible by land or by water taxi service.
Also, being the first major show of the Fall boat show season, manufacturers have long made Newport the place to launch their new boats and boating products. Together with Cruising World, Sailing World and MotorBoating magazines, the Show recognizes boats in divisions Under 30’ and 30’ and Over, as well as products used for boat operation or for boating safety… before the event in a special magazine insert, during the Show with special identification and activities, and gives awards for “Best New Powerboat”, “Best New Sailboat” and “Best New Boating Product”. If you’re debuting a new boat or boating product, debut it in Newport, or if want to see the latest, be sure to come to the Show.
2 – Reggae Music at Tavern On Broadway with The Mintones (Friday – 9pm)
Come check out one of Rhode Island’s premier reggae acts performing roots reggae, modern reggae and dub at one of Broadways hottest new venues.
3- Newport Polo vs Mexico (Saturday – 4pm)
Newport Polo, host of the Newport International Polo Series XXIV, is the home of the Westchester Polo Club, America’s first polo club, est. in 1876, and founding member of the United States Polo Association, offering public exhibition matches and polo club member services for grass & arena polo, and polo instruction year-round.
4 – 80’s Night at Norey’s Star Restaurant (Saturday – 7pm)
Each and every Saturday night Norey’s plays all of your favorite 80’s music videos. Each week this ends up becoming absolute sing-along dance-a-thon.
5 – New York Yacht Club Invitational (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
6 – Live Jazz at Greenvale Vineyards (Saturday 1pm -4pm)
What has great wine, a fun crowd, and live music? Greenvale Vineyards does every Saturday afternoon through December 13th!
The whole family is welcome, even leashed pets. No reservations necessary, just stop on by! Feel free to pack a picnic!
7 – Climb Miantonomi Tower (Sunday 10am – 1pm)
On Sundays throughout the month of September, Miantonomi Tower in Miantonomi Park will be open from 10am to 1 pm allowing visitors to climb to the highest point on Aquidneck Island. Beyond enjoying the spectacular view from the tower, visitors will get a chance to explore the trails, wildlife and historic sites in Newport’s largest park as part of Minatonomi Exploration Days.
8 – Tour the International Tennis Hall of Fame
After three years of planning and a $3 million renovation, the Museum at the International Tennis Hall of Fame is now open to the public.
The museum collection has been completely reinterpreted and the galleries have been redesigned to deliver an entirely new, engaging visitor experience. The intent of the new museum is to draw visitors into the content through interactive exhibits and a cohesive narrative of tennis history as told through the lives and careers of the 243 Hall of Famers who built the sport. More than 1,900 artifacts of tennis history are displayed throughout the exhibit galleries, ranging from Rod Laver’s first Wimbledon trophy to the golden shoes that Serena Williams wore in her first French Open victory.
9 – Harry Potter Day at Escobar’s Corn Maze (Saturday 12pm – 4pm)
Come dressed as a character and receive $1.00 off admission. Get sorted as you enter phase one. While lost in the maze, stop at Hog’s Head for a drink. Mad Science of Southeast MA & RI will be stepping in to run Professor Snape’s Potions class. It will take place in the field outside of the maze starting at 12:30 PM. From 2:30-3:30 PM there will be a meet and greet with the Rhody Ridgeback Quidditch Team from URI- don’t forget your broom!! We’re sorry but the Quidditch Team will not take part if we have to use our raindate. Exchange your muggles money at Gringotts so you can visit Ollivander’s Wand Shop and make a wand suitable to you. Enter our A-MAIZing Wizard Tournament which will be held at 3:45PM. It will be a grand day for all Harry Potter fans. There is no extra admission price for Harry Potter Day.
10 – Free Concert at Brick Market Place (Saturday 1pm -5pm)
The Brick Market Place is a year round destination nestled in the heart of Newport, Rhode Island. Containing over 25 unique shops and eateries, Brick Market Place is a must for visitors and locals alike.
11 – Sail Newport Members Championship (Sunday)
Started in 2011 as an annual event for Sail Newport members, the Sail Newport Members Championship is two separate events to determine the annual champions at Sail Newport. Racing is held in Sail Newport’s fleet of J/22 sailboats on Narragansett Bay. Spinnaker racing will take place on Sunday, September 20th, and non-spinnaker racing will be the following weekend on Sunday, September 27th.
12 – Third Beach Clean-Up with Norman Bird Sanctuary (Saturday 10am)
Each year, NBS leads the ICC at Third Beach, which is an international effort to reduce litter on our beaches. Last year, 648,015 volunteers in 92 countries picked up more than 12.3 million pounds of trash! You can be a part of the effort to keep our favorite local coastal areas clean by joining efforts with NBS staff. Participants will meet at the Navy lot at Third Beach and comb the shore for stray trash.
All participants receive FREE guest passes to NBS!
13 – Jamestown Half Marathon (Saturday 6:30am)
The course is set on picturesque Conanicut Island and looks out over Narragansett Bay and the Newport Pell Bridge, the largest suspension bridge in New England.
14 – Murder at the Museum (Saturday 7pm)
It’s 1896 and a few of Newport’s wealthy elite have stayed behind in Newport to avoid a few, unspoken scandals. To keep entertained, Mrs. Astor is hosting Parlor Game nights every Saturday. This week, it’s a murder mystery at the John N.A. Griswold House, and YOU will be part of the action as a character. When someone actually dies, you must search the house for clues and interrogate the suspects. Do you have what it takes to solve the crime?
