Bill “Redney” Bolender nominated to East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame!

Local surfing pioneer and living legend, Bill Bolender, has been nominated to the 2018 Class of the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame.

Redney Bill Bolender

Here’s what the hall had to say

“Young mid sixties goofyfooted surfing phenom Bill “Redney” Bolender was the dominant talent in the Newport and New England surfing scene in the mid to late sixties. Starting as a Hobie Team member at just 13 years of age, Redney traveled throughout the Northeast surfing scene winning nearly every one of those early events. With his flaming red hair, and unique surfing talent this young surfer never failed to impress. Later he opened Redney’s surf shop which was a New England mainstay for decades. He remains an influential member of the Newport surf scene to this day.”

Results will be released at Surf Expo in September!

Congrats, Red and thanks for getting me hooked up with my first board when I was in junior high!

PS – Another local legend, Sid “The Godfather” Abruzi was inducted into the hall in 2016.
