The City of Newport has warming centers open through the weekend!

The purpose for offering the location of warming centers is to provide temporary shelter in an effort to prevent injury related to exposure to the elements.

The Warming Center locations will be posted when the weather forecast calls for low temperatures, or a combination of precipitation, wind chill, and temperatures that “feel like” temperatures of 20° F or below.

The Warming Centers will operate at the following locations during the posted times that fit the above mentioned conditions:

Edward King House
35 King Street
Monday – Friday: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Newport Public Library
300 Spring Street
Monday: 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Tuesday – Thursday: 9:30 am to 9:00 pm
Friday & Saturday: 9:30 am to 6:00 pm
Sunday: 1:00 to 5:00 pm

Seamen’s Church Institute  
18 Market Square
Wednesday, December 27th: 4:00 pm to 7:00 am 
Thursday – Tuesday, December 28th – January 2nd: 4:00 pm to 7:00 am
Daytime hours: Normal Operations

The Florence Gray Community Center – Main Lobby

WARMING CENTER GUIDELINES

Individuals using the Warming Centers must comply with all rules and policies and adhere to the following guidelines:

  •  Please bring your own reading material and any other personal items you require.
  •  Amplified sound devices are prohibited.
  •  Please supply your own water and snacks.
  •  Please note that there are no medical services provided at the Centers.
