City to Test New Traffic Pattern on Spring Street

Traffic changes are coming this week to the area surrounding the former Coffey’s Garage on Spring Street.

Beginning Wednesday, July 31st, Court House Street will be closed to vehicular traffic as the City tests a proposed traffic pattern at the request of the Historic Spring Leadership Committee, which has been working to construct a new public park around the site of Newport’s historic founding fresh water spring.

In order to fully simulate the proposed traffic pattern, City crews will be posting new signage, realigning travel lanes and adding directional signage at various points on Spring Street and Bellevue Avenue.

Access to Washington Square and Farewell Street will be maintained via Stone Street, which will also be converted to a one-way from Spring Street and Broadway.

Motorists traveling to points west over the Newport Pell Bridge are encouraged to use Memorial Boulevard to America’s Cup Avenue.

For additional information about the project, please visit www.CityofNewport.com/SpringPark. The test traffic pattern will be in place until Oct. 15, 2019.
