Coast Guard Air Crew Medevacs Pregnant Woman From Nantucket

A Coast Guard air crew medevaced a 34-year-old pregnant woman from Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Friday evening.

At approximately 6 p.m., watchstanders received a request from the hospital for transport of a patient who went into labor and needed to receive a higher level of medical care.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., a HC-144 Ocean Sentry launched from Air Station Cape Cod to Nantucket.

The air crew arrived in Nantucket at about 7:45 p.m.; the patient and a nurse from Nantucket Cottage Hospital were transported to Logan Airport.

After arriving at Logan airport at about 9 p.m., the patient and nurse were transported by local Emergency Medical Services to Massachusetts General Hospital.

“Getting this woman and her unborn children to Logan airport was our top priority,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Stuart Broadway, an operations specialist with the First Coast Guard District command center.

Civilian transport was unable to transport due to weather conditions.
