Update: Firefighters recover body of missing boy in Portsmouth waters

The body of an 11-year-old boy who went missing in the waters off of Portsmouth was recovered Saturday morning around 9:30am.

On Friday evening at about 5:45pm, the boy went swimming at Gull Cove in Portsmouth while his father and siblings were on shore. The father couldn’t reach the boy when he began having difficulties and slipped under the water. Gull Cove is known to have a steep drop off to about 25 feet just yards from shore.

Portsmouth Fire led the search and recovery operation, while a Coast Guard helicopter searched from the air and a dive team searched the water.
