Drive-By Truckers to play Newport Folk!

Drive-By Truckers, the Athens, GA based alternative country/southern rock band, are joining the line up of the sold-out 2017 Newport Folk Festival.

The band consists of Mike Cooley (lead vocals, guitar, banjo), Patterson Hood (lead vocals, guitar), Brad Morgan (drums), Jay Gonzalez (keys, guitar, accordion, backing vocals) and Matt Patton (bass guitar, backing vocals). Drive-By Truckers has gone through numerous lineup changes over the years.

Drive-By Truckers recently released their 11th record, titled American Band in September 2016. The critically acclaimed album is the band’s most political to date, railing against Trump-era politics with nearly half of the songs written with lyrics speaking to gun violence.

The album has received positive comments from music critics. Slate magazine wrote the album is the band’s “most powerful release in almost a decade,” believing it to be “a kind of rebirth for the band.”

Drive-By Truckers will play the hallowed grounds at Fort Adams on Saturday, July 29th.
