Governor Invites Rhode Islanders to Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at State House

Governor Gina M. Raimondo is inviting all Rhode Islanders to attend this year’s Christmas Tree Lighting celebration at the State House. The festivities will take place on Thursday, November 29 at 5:00 p.m. Governor Raimondo, First Gentleman Andy Moffit and their kids will light the Christmas Tree at 6:15 p.m.

After the tree is lit, the Governor and First Gentleman will read The Night Before Christmas. This year’s celebration will feature performances from “The Governor’s Own” 88th Army Band, the Mixed Magic Theater Exult Choir, the Ponaganset High School Chamber Chorus, and Wheeler Middle School Chorus. There also will be crafts for the kids and a free raffle. As always, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the State House from the North Pole.
Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to “Fill a Cruiser” with the Rhode Island State Police. Toys will be donated to a variety of local charities for distribution to local kids in need.

This year’s Christmas Tree arrived at the State House today. Donated from Bedrock Tree Farm in South Kingstown, the tree is an 18-foot Douglas Fir.
