Hinckley is the Official Luxury Power Yacht of the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover

Sail Newport announces today that Hinckley, the builder of America’s finest yachts for 90 years, is an Official Port Sponsor and the Official Luxury Power Yacht Provider of the Volvo Ocean Race Newport to be held May 8-20, 2018 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. The Hinckley Company’s headquarters and its largest Yacht Services location are situated on Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay just six miles from Newport. As Rhode Island’s largest full-service yacht yard, Hinckley Yacht Services Portsmouth draws clients from across the Northeast to its 15-acre facility.

Sailed over nine months, the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will take seven teams
of the world’s best sailors 38,739 nautical miles around the world, across four oceans and touching six continents.

Rhode Island will once again be the only North American Stopover port for the sailing event. More than 131,000 fans visited the Race Village during the event’s Rhode Island’s Stopover in 2015 and this year promises to be even more popular. The Stopover is a 13-day festival that is open to the public with free admission. Visitors can expect interactive pavilions and exhibits, entertainment, children’s activities and hospitality within the Race Village and sailing opportunities on the bay.

Up to seven Volvo Ocean Race 65’ boats will be docked at Fort Adams for up-close viewing. Spectators will also have the opportunity to view and experience a fleet of Hinckley Yachts on display at the South Alofsin Pier. The revolutionary Hinckley Dasher, the world’s first fully electric luxury yacht, will be on display as well.

Pete Saladino, Chief Marketing Officer of The Hinckley Company, says “Hinckley’s roots in sailing are very strong, and we are proud to sponsor the only North American Stopover of this fiercely competitive global race. Our customers are actively following the Race online and we are looking forward to welcoming the world’s best race teams, spectators and our customers to the Ocean State this May.”

“We welcome Hinckley to the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover as a Port Sponsor to showcase their beautiful yachts for the public to enjoy,” says Brad Read, executive director of Sail Newport and the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover. “Hinckley Yachts joins other sponsor partners in helping to bring this spectacular event to Rhode Island in May.”
