The legendary Rakim will be making his debut appearance in Newport, RI on Wednesday 9/18/19. This Long Island, NY native has been revered by hip-hop fans worldwide since the 1980s. His musical legacy has consistently grown over the years and he recently released a book entitled, “Sweat the Technique: Revelations on Creativity from the Lyrical Genius”. He typically performs in much larger venues so it will certainly be a unique experience to see him in an intimate setting like the Newport Blues Cafe.
He’ll also be joined by a strong team of openers. Newport’s own Freddie Black has continued to gain momentum in 2019 through a series of collaborative releases – some of which have gotten spins from heavyweights like DJ Premier.
Demmene Syronn is from Providence, RI via New Bedford, MA and is a member of DirtyDurdie, one of the most celebrated live acts in the RI area. He recently launched a solo campaign which includes his most honest, personal work to date.
Rounding out the bill is New Fame, a full-time touring lady hip-hop/soul duo originally from New York. They have played over 1,400 shows and implemented 80+ workshops in 9 countries over the last 6 years!
$30 general admission tickets and $100 meet & greet passes are available at newportblues.com while they last. $38 at the door. DJ Franchise will be starting the music promptly at 9pm. Strictly 21 and up.
