Joe Biden Diagnosed With Aggressive Prostate Cancer That Has Spread to His Bones

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, his personal office announced in a statement Sunday.

The diagnosis followed a medical evaluation last week after Biden reported increasing urinary symptoms. A subsequent examination revealed a prostate nodule, and testing confirmed cancer characterized by a Gleason score of 9 — the highest grade group indicating a more severe and fast-growing form of the disease.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the statement said. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, doctors noted a potentially positive development.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement continued.

Biden, 82, and his family are currently consulting with medical professionals to determine the best course of treatment.

Further updates on his condition and treatment plan are expected in the coming days.
