Daffodillion, fast approaching its goal of having 1 million daffodils blooming throughout Newport, is once again distributing free “Daffodillion” bulbs to Newport residents and businesses at the Easton’s Beach Parking lot on Saturday, October 15 from 9am-1pm — or until supplies last. The complimentary packets of 2 dozen bulbs have a retail value of nearly $20.
This year, Daffodillion is partnering with Savers FUNDrives to also collect gently-used clothing, accessories, linens, books and household items to be reused or recycled – keeping Rhode Island ‘green’ and useable items out of landfills. Donated items* enable Daffodillion to continue its mission of making Newport a more beautiful place to live and visit. By dropping of goods this Saturday before getting your free bulbs, one will perform two good deeds to benefit Newport and Rhode Island.
All those donating items for collection will receive a second complimentary bag of daffodils!
With the help of Newporters — and this year’s 175,000 bulbs joining the 496,000 previously planted — Daffodillion will reach two thirds of its ultimate “Daffodillion” goal.
Volunteers are also needed to help plant bulbs throughout the city in public areas beginning October 25th. To volunteer, email Daffodillion@cox.net.
